Confessions of a Superhero

I know I am super late to the party on this one ( no pun intended). This is an indy doc about people who are trying to make in LA as actors and what they do to kill time and make money.

Many they dress as recognizable characters and pose for pictures (working for tips!) with tourists.

If you like taking a look at the human condition then this is a compelling work that that makes you hopeful for dreamers and what they can accomplish.

Coraline

This is the latest stop motion film by Henry Selick. While it tries its hardest to be the Nightmare Before Christmas, Selick’s best film to date, its just a little too long(2 hours +) and for a film that long it doesn’t tie up well enough.

It is an entertaining ride into a strange land, however it is also one of the worst attempts at cover a franchise I have ever seen. The original book by Neil Gaiman, which I must admit I have not read, has been adapted into a film but a graphic novel, video game and Broadway musical. What is next?

It is a shame when globalization moves out of business and into the creative world. It took a pretty well imagined story and killed it.

The film is however a good use of the new 3D technology and mixed well with the themes hidden within the story itself. So unless you have an awesome home theatre, go out and see this one.

Synecdoche New York

Ok I think this film is clearly a test. and it tests to see if you are a true Kaufman fan. This film is what happens when Charlie Kaufman gets to work alone and seems to have a limitless budget. Its a little weak in the ending but the visuals will stay with you. like all Kaufman films this movie is about a man who isn't happy so he begins to pull at the layers that make up his life and finds only more layers at which to pull at.

a must see weather you rent it or see it in the theaters, i would suggest the theater due to the stunning visual effects used.

on a personal note i think that there is a little too much screen time for the poo and other bodily fluids, and they are not even in there for shock value.

The Fall

To everyone who hasn't seen this movie go do it!!! Well buy the dvd at least. I was one of those lucky people that wanted to see a movie one day saw the poster for the fall, and thought to myself that looks awesome... and it was!!!! It stars the main actor from Pushing daisies(Lee Pace) and was directed by the guy who did The Cell, Tarsem Singh. I have to say that the Fall has all of the good things from the Cell and none of the bad( J.Lo).

Tarsem Singh uses a number of different types of Religious iconography to help him adapt this story to the big screen. This is a larger than life film the traveled around the world to get the right images to tell the story. This movie will pull you out of your life and give you a memorable experience.

The Fall is fun ride that everyone I have suggested to go see it has not been disappointed. I would have to say that this is mainly because of the direction, Singh has one of the most amazing eyes when it comes to telling a story. His next project is called War of the Gods and is slated for 2010. I am totally going to follow this man through holly wood. Why he hasn't gotten more films is beyond me.

DID YOU HEAR THAT HOLLYWOOD?! TARSEM SINGH WILL SAVE YOU!!!

The Wrestler

This is the newest movie by the Director of Pi and Requiem for a Dream, Darren Aronofsky. In this film Aronofsky strays away from the surreal and focuses on the real. This is a documentary style drama about what could have happened to Hulk Hogan( in stead his son is a convicted felon, his Daughter is an unsuccessful pop singer and his wife left him...so, i guess he's on top of the world.), its a documentary style piece which adds to the whole character study.

I don't know about you but i find that at times character studies get s tedious and boring like say one hour photo (...NOT a horror movie!!!!11). However in this film Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei keep their performances fresh and energetic. This was in part due to Aronofsky not rehearsing the actors and letting them improvise when they felt necessary.

all this really does is make me want to see Aronofsky's version of Robocop!!!!!

So it Begins

This blog is dedicated to good films that I have come across. I know what you are thinking " why should I listen to  you anyone can find a good movie , in fact I myself am  an expert that field cause I know what I like"
well I my self am a film maker that has a four year film degree and can have you find good movies, understand why you like the movies that you and thus help you avoid the stinkers.  I also have a level of industry information that the average person does not.
