Zombieland

What is there to say about Zombieland that has not already been said. Well the one lasting impression was .... this was a Michale Cera vehicle that he did not want to do. everyone else (including the Zombies) just rocked the house. This film is worth see just to experience what Woody Harrelson can do. Man when the Zombies come I want to be saved by a Redneck!!!

THe Brothers Bloom

This was a fun stylized rump through the heist genre. while it was fun, engaging, and entertaining, it will most likely get lost in the wave of nonsensical popcorn movies. But that is ok. This film would play well on the small screen as well the large. Its a must see "what if" a morale fun time extravaganza!!

Drag me to Hell

Finally Raimi has returned to horror and I have return to blogging about Awesome movies. This is dare I say it the best Raimi Movie I have ever seen! It has all the elements one would come to expect from Raimi film. Horror, gore, Action, and straight to the point punchlines. Raimi keeps up the gags that made the Evil Dead series so enjoyable.

The only thing that detracted from my enjoyment was the lack of a cameo from Bruce Campbell. But I am sure that is because Bruce has grown tired of having Raimi squirt all sorts of things in his face.

See this movie it has the best old lady fight scene I have ever seen.

Into the Wlid

Again I waited until rental to catch this gem.

Its the true story if a college grad that searched for meaning in his own life. Or more specifically direction in his own.

The lead is played by Emile Hirsch and the piece was directed Sean Penn, Clearly a foreshadowing of milk.

The film was 2 and a half hours long and it was done so well that I felt it was a little short. It was a well crafted ride with a number of cameos... look for underground comic Zach Galifianakis!

Bigger, Stronger, Faster

This is a documentary that explores a lot of things. More specifically what it means to be American. Again this is a rental that I found via netflick's watch now feature.

It takes the view point of a young man, the runt of his family, and his search for the American Dream. His dream was to be a large muscly man type. He idolizes wrestlers and action heroes, mainly because they are able to handle most if not all of the problems in their life in less than an hour. They can also lift a lot of weight.
Strangely, all of his heroes say that they got where they were but avoiding steroids. Which he comes to find out was all just a lie.

he discovers a number of lies in America surrounding "performance enhancing drugs" and asks the question.."if everyone cheats is it cheating"

The Watchmen

What can I say that hasn't already been said about the Watchmen. Frankly nothing but, I am going to review it any way.

Having read and really liked the graphic novel I was somewhat let down by the film. it felt like a 75% effort. I know that there is a follow DVD that completes the experience, but from Zach Snyder (from 300 fame) I expected more. Or at the very least I hoped that they would have left the story alone.

I realize that the film was nearly 3 hours long but there were story lines that were started and not finished that should have just been left out, or what I would have liked to have seen was 3 movies.

They would have made money and it would have done the watchmen justice. After the amazingly unflinching version of 300 I expected so much more from Zach Snyder. Crucial story points were left out and unnecessary moments were left in.

I would expand upon these thoughts but I would like to leave this spoiler free.

I did enjoy the film greatly, it just did not meet my expectation form a titan like Snyder

Taken

This is the newest Luc Besson movie and it is nothing new. It delivers in the action department, but i think you are better off watching Leon if you are looking for action. However, I did enjoy Liam Nesion as an action star.

this film utilized quick, what some wold call "violent", cuts that add tension to the fight ,as well as the, chase scenes. This style kept the film moving quickly. This pacing was clearly done to cover up the many plot holes and lack of competent story telling. The shakiness of the story was exacerbated by the casting. I kept thinking that he had fond his daughter... but he hadn't.

These where somewhat shocking elements to find in a Luc Besson film... no wait he did Taxi that Jimmy Fallon movie.
